The best day of my life is a day I will never forget. June 15, 1986 was an ordinary Sunday night for many people, but for me, it was a night that changed my life forever. It was the beginning of something marvelous and awe amazing for me.
What happened on June 15, 1986? Today marks thirty-five years since I was baptized. It was the start of a new journey for me. Being baptized I made a public announcement of faith, a belief in what Christ did for me, a proclamation of profound change, and an act of surrender to the crucified and resurrected Jesus Christ.
My baptism experience was amazing. I remember that night after being immersed I felt like my soul had been cleaned spotless and I was filled with overwhelming joy. Knowing I was making the right choice I came up from the water rejoicing. I was convinced that I was born again. It was the beginning of a great journey walking hand in hand with the one who died for me. I was only a child but I was very excited and zealous to know and learn more about God. I was anxious to attend every church service, be a part of a bible quiz team, and be able to repeat the golden text in my Sunday school class every week.
Amazingly, as I recall, the more I read the scriptures in my early days after becoming a Christian I felt more at peace and was able to share with my schoolmates about the love of Christ. I no longer felt tempted by the things of the world. I started to attend church functions regularly and serve actively in various ministries. The more I got to know God, the more joyful, peaceful, and secure I felt.
Looking back after thirty-five years, I can see clearly how God’s love remained true and faithful despite the fact that I messed up many times. Although my struggles and challenges did not disappear from my life, they prompted me to draw close to God and rely on Him more. Through each difficult moment, God’s tender love has never failed to guide me through. I have finally understood what it means to have faith and trust in a God who is unseen. Over the years I have found comfort, peace, meaning, and joy in the Lord that the world does not give me. Walking with Jesus is the best decision I have made. Today I am grateful for being obedient to His call. I am grateful and I want to tell the world, Jesus saved my soul and made me whole.
May God’s name be praised for what he has done in my life and for what he will continue to do!!! Magnify the LORD with me, Hallelujah for His saving grace that saved a sinner like me!!! Click here to read more about my baptismal experience.
