The Only Safe Place

During my personal time with the Lord early this morning, I was prompted to meditate on some verses in Psalms that talk about God’s wings of protection. When I think of wings, I think of a mother bird and a hen taking care of their little ones.

Psalm 91: 1-4, He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

The first thing that I see in these verses is that the wings of God are, for me and for you, a place of protection, satisfaction and a place of refreshment.

The shadow of the Almighty is a safe place to dwell and ultimately it is the only safe place to dwell. God is faithful to protect and deliver. He is our fortress, high tower, the place where we can run to, to be safe. The key to this protection is in the first verse. We must stay close, abide in Him, let him be the Secret Safe place.thW72AA9EQ

I love the imagery in verse 4 of the Psalm, He will cover you with his feathers“, and under his wings you will find protection. The picture of a parent bird, or a mother hen, wooing its’ chicks and putting them in safety underneath her wings. As the offspring of the bird finds refuge under the wings of his parent, so we can find our refuge under the protection of Almighty God. Too often in this world, we turn to God when it is either convenient for us, or when we have messed up so bad we have nowhere else to turn.

The Psalmist is promising here that if you want that safety, that refuge, that shield, that protection, that comprehensive coverage, you need to look no further then to God your Father. When we are in sweet communion with God we enter into this special place where nothing can penetrate the Lord’s protection.

However, the requirement is that you must be under His wings. The young birds have no qualms with who their parent is. They do not doubt their parent. They do not question their parent. They have complete trust in who their parent is and what their parent will do for them, they simply trust. God requires the same from His children. As we stay close to the Lord and his teachings we also receive protection that comes from making good choices.
The Psalmist declares in Psalm 3:3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
…when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of your wings” Psalm 61: 2-4.

No matter what you may be facing today, run to your heavenly Father, for there you will find protection. He will cover you with His feathers and shelter you with His wings.
Thank you Lord, that you are my shelter. Thank you for your promise to protect me and help me with whatever I may face today. I choose to run to you so I will be covered with your feathers. My prayer is that I will always remember to be thankful for your constant protection in my life. We don’t always know how God has protected us but we know that He is good.

Thanks .I welcome this topic. The Orly Safe Place .It remind us that when we abide under God swings we are secure. Just as how the analogy was made about the birds not having any qualms who their parent is like wise we are to trust God and believe and obey his word and we will be secure.Abiding in Christ is our only security.
