Gratitude is one of the most powerful human emotions, because it not only enables us to appreciate what we already have, but also helps to attract new blessings into our lives.
This day, as you are reading this, whether it be at the start of your day, or at the end of it, take a moment to think about all that you have to be grateful for, regardless of how hard life can be and the many challenges you encounter.
There are times when I have been ungrateful, when I complain and grumble about life and its circumstances, about suffering, disappointments, and going through what seems endless trials and tribulations. Yet the Lord is always there with me, even when it seems like I am forever in the wilderness.
In a world where most of us are programmed to strive for more, desire what we do not have, and lust after what is faster, better and stronger, we forget to appreciate what we have.
It made me think: what would happen if we could all learn to live with less? What if we could accept the gifts life has to bestow upon us and let what we have be enough? What if we took measures to simply count our blessings everyday? Would we or could we be happier or more contented?
Our hearts often turn to God when we are in trouble, and less often when things are going well. But we need to count our blessings, not only when all is well, but every day of the year.
It is good to pause and see just how very blessed we are each day. Like a branch attached to a vine, we have access to all the blessings that flow from God to us.
Gratitude is such an important part of living a happy and content life. Being thankful even for the simplest things helps remind us just how important those things really are.
So many of us take for granted our blessings, such as the freedom that we enjoy, shelter, food, clothing, employment, and many other material things.
Sometimes it is easy to worry because you are going through a tough time. However, remember that no matter how bad your situation may seem, there are tens of thousands of things to be grateful for.
When things are going well it can be easy to overlook the blessings in our lives. We can take for granted our health or the relationships we are fortunate enough to have and rather get caught up worrying about the challenges we face.
But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. GENESIS 39:21
Have you considered all the deeds of the steadfast love and faithfulness of God towards you?
I have been reflecting quite a bit lately on God’s blessings to me and the things for which I am personally grateful. I thought of making it my goal for this month.
