Putting God First In Your Life

We can allow life’s pressures and demands to pull us away from God. Our time with God, the quiet, purposeful, peaceful, and planned time that we spend to “Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness” (Matthew 6: 33), is the difference between a life full of meaning, truth, and love and one full of shallowness, meaninglessness, and bitterness. We must guard this time, cherish it, and always make time alone to put God first in our lives.

Matthew 6:33 says, ”But seek first His kingdom and righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Putting God first means that we strive every day to be more like Him in our thoughts, words and actions. As Christians who love God we should always put Him first. He is the most important part of every day.

To seek the kingdom is to live a life where God is always given the first place in your life. Give Him the first hours of your day, worship Him, sing praises, talk to Him, read the Bible; these are all part of giving Him the first of your day. Wake up with Him on your mind. The benefit of this is that He directs your path and you respond to His leading. He also opens doors that no one can shut.

Proverbs 3:6 says “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

God is not an appointment. God wants to be a part of our daily lives. Do you wake up each morning and thank God for having another day? Do you converse with him? In your daily activities do you think about how God wants you to be?

When life gets crazy busy and you almost feel like you are drowning; ask yourself, am I putting God first?

In Jeremiah 2:13 God says, “My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.”

God is the fountain of living waters. He alone can satisfy our deepest needs. Any other wells we attempt to dig to satisfy our thirst will leak and leave us thirsty.

How much time do you spend on Whstsapp, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites? How does this compare to your alone time with God and your face-to-face interactions? Social media can be used as a tool to draw us closer to God and share His Word. It can also be a huge distraction, which takes valuable minutes and hours from our day and our time with our Lord.

Jeremiah called the people of Israel to love God and to put him first place in their lives. Today, I call you to love God and to put him first place in your life. It isn’t easy, because other things always pull our hearts in another direction. But God, in his great love, will give us everything we need if we first give him our hearts. Give him first place in your heart today.

If you maintain your faith in God and strive to put him first, everything else will fall into place. He is faithful! He keeps His promises! Put Him first and then just watch Him bless you!

Our God must come first. He must be the Priority in our lives. Nothing should come before Him. What “good” thing have you allowed to take away time from making God first place in your life?

Can you think of areas of your life where you need to put God first? As you make God the number one factor of your life everything will surely fall into pleasant places for you in every area of your life. God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. Let your focus be God first.
