The Nutritious Food: The Word

Mat 4:4 (KJV) “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

God’s Word can provide truly satisfying, nutritious spiritual food for true spiritual feeding!

You can lead a sinful heart to the word, but you can’t make him drink. Some people are spiritually starving to death in congregations full of spiritual meat and drink!

Hearing God’s Word is not feeding spiritually, One must Do It! Live It! Stand for It! Work it!

John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

Is not Jesus’ meat also our meat??

Heb 5:14 (KJV) “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

Strong meat (spiritual food) can only be digested by those who obey and accept the milk!

Are we satisfied with our diet or are we murmuring and complaining about what God has given us, craving other “food” which God has not supplied?

Num 11:4-6 (KJV) “And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic: 6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.”

The Word As Meat

The meat of God’s Word are those truths and doctrines that will build muscle into our spiritual system – Hebrews 5:11-14
Mature Christians should be eating meat!
When I was a baby strained carrots were fine, but now I want steak once in a while
Too often believer’s resign themselves to a lifetime diet of milk and never get into the meat. That is abnormal!

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.” Isaiah 55:1-2

Craving the Word of God speaks of intimacy. It draws me right into the arms of God. You know, the church has learned to get satisfied with junk food. It’s so sad. And then they have no appetite for the pure, uncontaminated, spiritual milk of the Word and consequently they’re weak, malnourished, unprotected and lack intimacy with God.

You know, when I emphasize the Word of God, I’m not mad, I’m not upset. I just care. God has exalted His Word to the place of His own name. And, friends, man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God – Matthew 4:4. I know what gives you life and protection and nurture and strength and intimacy. It’s the Word of God. It should be read like a hungry baby sucking with all its strength to draw out all the nourishment he can get necessary for life.

Soul Food

In John 6, after He fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish, Jesus repeatedly offers Himself as the spiritual food that gives eternal life and eternal satisfaction to all who eat.

John 6:27: “Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.

John 6:32: Jesus then said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.’

John 6:33: “For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.

Our spiritual appetites have become jaded as a result of eating too much junk food.

Some Christians are feeding on junk food and it is spoiling their spiritual dinner. Now Jesus comes to us in the plain ordinary way of bread and is so easily overlooked and taken for granted. When people go on diets they tend to leave out the bread.

Similarly when our lives get hectic or even when our lives are not hectic, we may choose to leave the Word out of our diet.

There are multitudes of starving sheep that won’t reach out to our spiritual Sheperd for something to eat.

Consider this: Some sheep are becoming so skinny that their spiritual ribs are showing.
